Massive exists to help people like you learn to tell stories. Our experience has led us to believe that with the right guidance and practice, anyone can learn how to tell a good story. Through training hundreds of scientists, we’ve developed a basic email course that anyone can use to get started telling stories.
When you click the link below, you can enter your email address to sign up for the storytelling emails. You'll get one email per week for three weeks, with no official deadlines.
If you want a preview of the course, check out these two lessons:
Exercise 1: From Abstract to Narrative
Exercise 2: Audience, Motivation, and Purpose
Together, these lessons will teach you the basics of the Massive method of science storytelling, which we developed by working with hundreds of scientists in the last year. At the end of each lesson, you'll be given an exercise to complete. By the end of the course, you'll have submitted a Lab Note and pitched a story to Massive's editors—and by having learned our storytelling style through the course, your pitches are more likely to be accepted.
These introductory lessons aren’t meant to be exhaustive and the exercises are completely optional. But, they will dramatically improve your ability to recognize and tell stories by teaching you basic principles, putting those ideas into practice, and providing you with chances for feedback. You'll learn more, meet people more easily, and ramp up faster if you can complete the lessons.
We've designed this course to fit around even the busiest schedules, requiring just an hour or so per week. So we recommend that you give it a try.
